A Wedding, Space Jam, and a Late-Night Rebrand
Wedding tech at noon, a full rebrand of the JPPS web presence in the afternoon, Space Jam with the kids at six, then back at it until well past midnight.
Yesterday started at Great Lakes Church a little before noon and didn't really end until I finally closed the laptop sometime after 1am. A wedding and a movie night got wedged in the middle of what turned into a full rebrand of the JPPS web presence.
Wedding tech at GLC
I got to the church around noon to get everything set up and ready to go — the wedding itself ran from 2:00 to 2:45. Lisa and I have been running sound and video at Great Lakes Church since the launch team days, so this is well-worn ground for us at this point.
Into the rebrand marathon
Once things were cleaned up after the wedding, Lisa and I headed over to GLC's NextGen building, where I got started on what turned into a full rebrand of the JPPS web presence. Part of the point was cutting costs: jpps.us had been sitting on paid Looka hosting, so I pulled it — along with this site — back onto our own self-hosted GitLab, serving both straight from GitLab Pages instead. Two more properties riding on infrastructure we're already running, no extra hosting bill.
While I was at it, jpps.us got a full rebuild with real content instead of a generic template, plus a software section showing off what I've actually built and open-sourced. The store — store.jpps.us, where SRT Matrix licenses get sold — got restyled to match, dark slate and gold instead of unstyled browser defaults.
Rather than keep separate copies of the logo floating around every repo (which is exactly how you end up staring at a "wrong" logo that turns out to just be a stale cache of the right one), I split the logo, favicon, and color palette out into their own thing — a shared brand-assets host at branding.jpps.us that the business site and the store both pull from now. Change the logo once, it updates everywhere.
Space Jam with GLC Kids
Movie night was at 6 — this round was GLC Kids' turn to watch Space Jam. Always good to see the tech we've built into that room over the years actually getting used for something like that.
Back home, back at it
After the movie wrapped up I headed home and picked the rebrand work right back up — that's how my email signature ended up a proper dark-branded card instead of a plain-text footer (dark slate, gold accent, the actual logo, since my branding has always been dark-mode first and the old signature never reflected that), and why I was still pushing changes well past midnight.
